How It Started

172 Coffee Roasters began with a simple idea: roast coffee we'd be happy to drink ourselves.

Jon spent many years working as a chef in restaurants across London and Surrey, where attention to detail mattered every day. Learning how ingredients work together, refining flavours and taking pride in producing something properly made naturally led to an interest in coffee.

What started as curiosity soon became an obsession. The more Jon learned about coffee origins, roasting and brewing, the more he realised just how much difference the roasting process makes.

Before long, roasting coffee had become every bit as rewarding as cooking.

Together with his business partner Chris, 172 Coffee Roasters was created to do one thing well: roast great coffee and share it with people who appreciate it.

Roasted in Godalming

Every coffee is hand roasted in Godalming, Surrey.

Whether it's our Espresso Wings Blend, a single origin coffee or our organic decaf, we choose coffees because we enjoy drinking them. If they don't make the cut, they don't go on the website.

Outside the Roastery

When he's not roasting coffee, Jon can usually be found on one of his motorbikes. He enjoys loading up the bike and disappearing across Europe for a few days, exploring new roads, meeting people and, unsurprisingly, seeking out good coffee along the way.

It's that same appreciation for taking things at the right pace that carries through into the roastery.
